1
What type of clients do you see?
I work with both neurodivergent and neurotypical adults who want a whole-person, functional-nutrition approach. If you're looking for care that understands the gut–brain connection, honours real-life bandwidth, and uses a neurodivergent lens to make change feel clearer, calmer, and more doable, you're in the right place.
2
Is This Psychotherapy?
No. This is nutritional counselling. We work with food and your body. We do not diagnose or treat mental illness.
CREDENTIALS & Approach
What the letters after Yvonne's name mean, and how they shape the way she works.
1
Dietitian vs. Nutritionist: What's the difference?
It's one of the most common questions people have when choosing between a dietitian and nutritionist, and a fair one. In Ontario, Registered Dietitian is a protected, regulated title: it means university training, supervised clinical practice, and ongoing accountability to a governing college. Nutritionist isn't regulated, so the training behind it can vary widely. That difference in clinical depth and oversight is why Yvonne, a Registered Dietitian (RD) with over 20 years of experience, is recognized by insurers in ways a nutritionist often isn't.
2
What is an IFNCP?
IFNCP stands for Integrative and Functional Nutrition Certified Practitioner — an advanced credential for Registered Dietitians trained in nutrition-focused functional medicine. In practice, it means I look at root causes, the gut–brain connection, stress patterns, hormonal changes, sensory needs, and whole-system physiology to understand what's going on, and how food, nutrients, and lifestyle can support you.
3
Why "Spicy Brains Nutrition"?
The name reflects my neurodivergent-informed approach to functional nutrition — bringing together the gut–brain connection, hormonal changes, sensory and executive-function needs, and the role of everyday foods, including functional foods like spices, in supporting the nervous system.
4
Do you support clients using GLP-1 medications?
Yes. I have experience supporting clients who are using GLP-1 medications, and those who aren't. Long-term success with GLP-1s for improved health often requires nutrition support, symptom monitoring, and targeted supplementation. I can help you understand how these medications interact with appetite, digestion, nutrient intake, and overall metabolic health. (For medical decisions or medication questions, please consult your prescribing clinician.)

1
Do you take insurance? Are dietitian services covered?
I don't bill insurance directly, but I can provide a receipt for you to submit. Registered Dietitian services are often covered under extended health benefit plans, though coverage varies, and many clients get partial or full reimbursement. Not sure if you're covered? Contact your benefits provider directly and ask whether your plan includes Registered Dietitian services, and whether a referral is required. Registered Dietitian services can also be claimed as a medical expense on your income tax.
